Now for the loveliest of Scotland's freshwater lochs. Loch Maree is not just a pretty name. Rather, it is twelve miles of totally unspoilt, undiluted peace and tranquility.

About halfway along, where the loch widens temporarily and a cluster of little islands add to the scenic beauty, is the Loch MareeLodge, which proudly boasts on a roadside plaque that Queen Victoria once stayed there.
